Are you on the verge of a nervous breakdown?
Information Overload
is a very REAL and very SERIOUS problem in today’s world. Quite honestly, the score of last nights Yankee’s game, and their current standing (which right now isn’t very good) is the only thing I really care to know on a daily basis, outside of the welfare of my wife and kids. I do carry a blackberry, however, it is more as a means to keep in touch with friends than it is for business associates, I let most calls go to voice mail. If the person calling doesn’t leave a message, I guarantee what they were calling me about wasn’t very important, therefore, I don’t really care to have them interrupt my time. I do my best to avoid news papers, and don’t really have a clue what is going on in the elections right now. Sometime days before the elections I will likely look for a summary of everything and base my voting decision on that information.
I have worked on training the people around me on what is important and what is not important, at least according to them, honestly, if it is important to them, it doesn’t make it important to me. I am often blamed for “tuning people out”, I do it a lot.
Here is a video of Timothy Ferris, Author of The 4-Hour Workweek talking about information overload, and some technique to get away from information overload, he expands greatly on this technique in his book The 4-Hour Workweek

Progress..
Progress has definitely been made in my quest to free myself from the confines of having to work hours for money. I have decided to take the route of getting involved in internet marketing and affiliate marketing. I am still working my normal job, however, I decided I was due for a career change. My decision to go with internet marketing was based on the fact that I have always had an interest in marketing, and the study of, and with internet marketing, I can combine my knowledge of the internet with marketing.

Last day of my vacation…
Well, my vacation to Hilton Head for this month is over as of tomorrow morning. Not the complete ending to my vacation as I will be taking my family to Lake James in North Carolina to visit with my cousin.
I woke up early this morning to spend about 1-2 hours working toward my 4 hour a week / $30,000 a month goal. I looked at my current business, which is a small IT firm and started looking at how I can outsource every last part of it. I immediately took my existing projects and posted them on Elance for bid to see what I can find. So far I have had some good response, this is very encouraging!
My initial thought was to abandon my current business. It has been very time consuming with very little in return. However what I am finding is that if I outsource all of it, I think I can actually increase my businesses revenue and work on it much less.
I have also been looking at investing into online gambling and/or an online pharmacy. These may sit on the backburner while I continue along building my business.
Although we only spent a week on vacation, we had a rule of no cell phones, and no watches (blatant ignorance of time). It has been very relaxing and has allowed my mind to clear and focus quite a bit. Only has it been the past two days that I have felt the need to beginning to act on some of my urges to get out of employment, into being a business owner. A lot of that thought was spurred by watching my wife and children enjoy my company, and enjoying theirs as well.
So far this challenge is going well. My goals now are to focus on increasing my revenue stream by increasing my clientèle for my business.
Moving toward a better me…
So here I sit at the end of my week vacation in Hilton Head Island, which is a great past time for me, some of my fondest childhood memories come from Hilton Head. I have spent the entire vacation reading for the third time, a book by Timothy Ferris called the 4-Hour Work Week. It took the third time for the whole idea to click in my head.
I have decided to challenge myself. $30,000 per month, sustained, in 3 to 6 months.
In some of my self reflection, I have realized that regardless the amount of money I am currently making, I am miserable with what I do. I don’t need to divulge as to why, but I can say with all assurance that continuing to do what I do will cause me to eventually go over the edge.
So back to my $30,000 per month, sustained, in 3 to 6 months. I am currently putting together a plan of a way to do this - the rules are that the income has to be completely passive, meaning, I am not running the business. I will be working to find places to outsource all of the work I do. I am determined to outsource every aspect of the business so that I can be anywhere in the world at any time for as long as I want, with very little interaction with my business.
My plan, my success, and possibly even my failures will be posted to this blog. I plan to share it all with you my dear reader. I promise I will not quit until I have met my goal.
The reason for this goal and challenge?
Simply put. I enjoy my family. I enjoy spending time discovering places and enjoying life with my wife, and my children. I am tired of my source of income dictating when and where and how I spend time with my family. Mind you, $30k a month is quite a bit of money, its just an arbitrary number I pulled from the sky to be honest. The key is that whatever the income is, it is enough to support my family and our lifestyle, and give us the ability to travel the way we want to travel, to explore the way we want to explore and do it together. The key is, this income becomes 99.9% hands off for me. I set the ball in motion, and allow the others I have hired to become the cogs in the wheel, while I remove myself from the wheel altogether.
